Few areas in London are so historic but also so modern as this particular area. Andrew took us to visit Old St. Pancras church, probably the oldest Christian site in the UK and Coal Drops Yard behind King’s Cross station to see the ‘kissing roofs’ designed by Heatherwick Studio which connect two former coal depots.
We also visited the little-known Georgian Somers Town which boasts distinctive 1930s Art Deco flats and surviving 1860s tenements and walked through Camley Street Natural Park which runs next to the Regent’s Canal and one of Andrew’s favourite areas, Agar Town, claimed to be a slum by the Midland Railway – otherwise it would have complicated the building of St. Pancras station.
